AAVE (African American Vernacular English) is a distinct dialect of English spoken primarily by Black Americans, with unique grammatical and pronunciation features that differ from standard English. It's often called "Ebonics" outside of academic circles, and is also known as Black English Vernacular or Vernacular Black English.
AAVE is a complex and evolving language with its own rich linguistic structure and history. It plays a significant role in culture, identity, and expression for many African Americans. Linguists study AAVE not only to understand its origins and rules but also to highlight its legitimacy as a fully-formed linguistic system.
